Overcoming Settlement on Unexcavated Fill
This residential building, erected years ago on unexcavated fill, experienced significant settlement and façade cracking. The unstable soils created challenges far more complex than originally anticipated. To correct the condition, we designed and implemented a helical pier foundation system to transfer building loads into competent strata.
Steel piers were driven through the unpredictable fill until they reached stable soil layers. On-site
adjustments were required to manage variable resistance and achieve reliable support. The system provided vertical support, allowed selective re-leveling, and stabilized masonry cracking.
By bypassing the compromised soils, the solution ensures long-term durability, safeguarding both the structure and property value.
“Stabilization with helical piers overcame unexcavated fill conditions, restoring safety and
durability.”
TECHNICAL HIGHLIGHTS
- Condition: Building erected on unexcavated fill; unpredictable soils
