Redundancy, Space Efficiency, and Energy Control
We implemented a twinned furnace strategy to address access constraints and deliver reliable,
high-performance heating without oversizing. Two smaller furnaces operate in sync via a twinning kit, functioning as a single system for seamless control and comfort.
This approach improved serviceability (units fit through tight stairs and doorways), provided built-in redundancy if one unit is offline, and enabled staged capacity for better energy performance under IECC/ASHRAE 90.1. The result is resilient heating, reduced lifecycle costs, and minimal disruption for future replacements—a practical mechanical solution with clear architectural benefits.
“Two synchronized furnaces deliver resilience and comfort in tight spaces.”
TECHNICAL HIGHLIGHTS
- System: Two furnaces with manufacturer twinning kit; unified control
- Controls: Single thermostat; staged capacity for part-load efficiency
- Space Planning: Smaller units fit constrained mechanical rooms
- Redundancy: One unit can heat at partial capacity during service
- Ductwork: Balanced supply/return; matched static pressure across units
- Compliance: Coordinates with IECC/ASHRAE 90.1 and local codes
- Maintenance: Lower replacement complexity; phased future swaps
